ELECTRIC CARS

66

Lotus, the company best-known for
making small, lightweight but hugely
enjoyable sports cars, is hoping to ruffle
some hypercar feathers with the 2000hp
Evija. A mid-mounted 2000kW lithium-ion
battery echoes the engine layout of the
classic Lotus cars, but this beast delivers
a whopping 1700Nm to electric motors
powering each driveshaft.
Lotus says the lightweight construction
(the monocoque tub is a mere 129kg)
ensures a 0-62mph sprint in under three
seconds and a maximum speed of at least
200mph. Far from simply offering owners
an engaging drive, the Norfolk maker is
gunning for the title of the world’s most
powerful series production road car.
Skipping the supercar category and
heading straight for the hypercars of
this world, Lotus hopes the Evija will
reinvigorate the brand and bring a new

customer set into showrooms. How do
you do that? With a ferocious powertrain,
developed by Williams Advanced
Engineering, that can go from 0-186mph
in under nine seconds.
Alas, production is limited to just 130
examples in tribute to the car’s project
code, Type 130, with each model costing
a staggering £1.7million and requiring
a £250,000 deposit. But wait until you
see the rear lights – they’re based
on the afterburners of a fighter jet,
which is reason enough in itself to eBay
a kidney or two.

RIMAC C_TWO
Porsche invested heavily
into Rimac following its
Concept_One reveal,
and some of the Croatian
firm’s tech is now found in
the Taycan. But that hasn’t
stopped the innovation, as
the C_Two’s four motors
develop almost 2000hp.
It has a 403-mile claimed
range and the ability to
direct power to all-wheel
drive or just the rear axles
for electric drifts.
