improved by mirror extenders but they
didn’t cure the problem altogether. I tried
angling the screen backwards and this
helped a little too but again, didn’t cure it.
If I had the Strom for longer, I would try
other options for the screen.
MFG I pulled the Honda’s footpeg
rubbers out for an off-road ride — more
grip for boots; no extra vibration — and
never put them back. I added three
clicks of compression and half a turn
of rebound to the forks to slow down
pitching on the brakes. But the
biggie was adding the MC Cruise
system, an aftermarket cruise
control that works perfectly but
isn’t cheap (£420ish, plus
shipping and import duty from
Australia) — http://www.mccruise.com.
what was your biggest
disappointment?
JB The buffeting and noise at the helmet,
which I tried to reduce but ran out of
opportunity. I was also slightly
disappointed by the Suzuki’s fuel
consumption, which dropped to only just
in the 40s. Of course, that might have
something to do with the first question...
MFG The Africa Twin’s LCD dash looks
old, cluttered and unintuitive. Corrosion
on the spoke nipples is a let-down too.
But what annoyed me most was running
out of fuel with the range countdown still
ignorantly claiming there to be 20 miles
left. I didn’t expect that from a Honda.
How often did you go
off-road?
JB Once. I really fancied the idea of it but
it was clear the Strom isn’t really
supposed to venture far from tarmac. It
looks and sounds like it should but it’s
tall, heavy, a bit ungainly and better
