bassistPeteWaytoldRaymondthey
werelookingtoreplacekeyboardist
DannyPeyronelwithsomeonewho
coulddoubleupasrhythmguitarist.
“Heaskedmeif I wouldbe
interestedinjoiningtheband,”
recalledRaymond,whoseaddition
completed what diehard fans

considertobetheclassicUFO
lineup,theonethatdelivered
LightsOut(1977),thefollowing
year’sObsessionandlivefavourite
StrangersInTheNight(1979).
Raymondenjoyedfourspellswith
thegroup,thelatestrunningfrom
2003 totheircurrenttour;hedied
ofa heartattackeightdaysafterthe
hardrockershadplayedLondon’s
Forum.Theinterveningyearssaw
himbrieflyjoinWayandanother
sometimeUFObandmateMichael
schenkerintheirrespectivebands

singer,whohadoccasionallystood

southernrockersupuntilhisdeath.
Hisearthy,soulfulvocalshelped
powersevenalbums,thelastbeing
2010’sJustice. Healsoperformed
withTheRoadducksandenjoyed
a briefstintinsavoy Brown during
theearly’90s.

turneddownBrianepstein’soffer
tojoinfull-timethough,preferring
insteadtostickwithfellow
MerseybeatcomboTheBigThree.
Thebandscoreda minorhitwith
