T

he production version of BMW's
third-generation M6 Coupé was
first unveiled at the Geneva show
in 2012, with a high-revving, 4.4-
litre M TwinPower turbocharged
V8 engine delivering 553hp as standard,
through a seven-speed M DCT transmission.
With an Active M differential, M-specific
suspension technology and extensive
body reinforcements, as well as optional
M carbon ceramic brakes, the range-
topping F13 coupé accelerated from zero
to 62mph in 4.2 seconds, and claimed a
combined fuel consumption of 28.5mpg.
Lavishly equipped and strikingly-styled,
the F13 won many admirers and, with
502lb ft of torque from just 1,500rpm
plus excellent handling, the car's overall
performance is truly exhilarating on track.
Yet the M6 feels almost as much at
home cruising comfortably around town.
Key features included M Sports seats, an M
Sport cockpit and a key panel to adjust the
DSC mode, engine power characteristics,
the damper map and the M Servotronic

shift programme. Drivers can save
individually configured set-ups using the M
Drive buttons on the steering wheel, then
retrieve them when required.
The F13 M6 shared many features with
the concurrent M5 saloon, with options
including a head-up display with M-specific
features, BMW's ConnectedDrive
programme, M multifunction seats, a
Professional navigation system and the
Bang & Olufsen premium sound system. In
addition, the M Driver's Package raised the
top speed from 155mph to 190mph.
BMW released a Competition Edition
in 2014, with power increased to 567hp,
then up again to 591hp from 2016. As
well as engine tweaks, this also included
revisions to the spring and damper
settings, anti-roll bars, M-differential,
stability control programme and the
steering. These models also came with
a lightweight, Akrapovic titanium exhaust
system.
In 2015 this M6 was facelifted, with
cosmetic changes to the bumpers, air

intakes and LED headlights, before
production came to an end in 2017. Since
then there has been a keen demand for
the best examples.
According to Antony Machin, head of
content at Glass's, values are reasonably
strong: "Drivers continue to enjoy the
handling and comfort of this car, however,
as production ceased for Europe in 2018,
and there's no confirmation as yet of
a replacement, this car will continue to
mature and, just like the first generation
M6, could well be a classic in the making."
There's a fair range of prices, depending
on age, mileage and condition: "Asking
prices start at around £29,000 for an earlier
(2013) example with average mileage,"
Anthony confirms, "rising to about £48,000
for a car registered in 2017."
Only consider cars boasting a full
service history, preferably with all the
services having been carried out at a
