WITH THANKS
I’m very grateful to Graham Beeson and Courtney Mahon at Renaissance Classic Cars
(renaissance-classics.co.uk), the BMW Car Club of Great Britain
(bmwcarclubgb.uk), British Car Auctions (bca.com), Silverstone Auctions
(silverstoneauctions.com), bimmerforums.co.uk and Antony Machin at Glass’s
Guide (glassbusiness.co.uk) their help with this feature.

(autosussex.co.uk). With just 32,231
miles on the clock, it's had just one owner
and cost a whopping £97,355 when new

  • thanks to a stunning spec that includes
    20in, double-spoke Style 343M alloys,
Comfort Access, a BMW Individual Piano
    Black interior with Silverstone Merino
leather and just about every electrical
    option available at the time.
    Competition Edition cars are especially
    desirable, with something like this
    Singapore Grey metallic 2014 model
    advertised at Yorkshire specialists, GC
    Motors (gcmotors.co.uk) fitting the bill
perfectly. Having covered a mere 31,700
miles, it has a more understated black
leather interior plus all the usual M6 toys,

like carbon-fibre interior trim, a reversing
camera and 20in Competition M alloys. At
£33,990, it seems like good value, too.
As does the more eye-catching,
Alpine White M6 I found at Milton
Keynes sports and prestige dealer, ASM
Performance (asmperformance.co.uk).
Another 2014 model, this one boasts a
striking red, Merino leather interior and
a comprehensive factory spec with voice
control, 19in M Star-Spoke Style 344M
alloys, a reversing camera, heated seats
and head-up display all included. With just
37,000 miles on the clock, the car has a
full service history and the asking price is a
very reasonable £32,489.
With so much hi-tech equipment on

board, a complete up-to-date BMW service
history is a must. Minor electrical faults
seem surprisingly common and can result
in big bills, so avoid any car throwing up a
warning light or message on the dash.
Welds on the air conditioning condenser
have been known to fail, causing the
refrigerant gas to leak out, so check that
it blows cold. Brake pads and discs tend
to wear out pretty quickly, so budget for
replacements if they appear to be on
the way out. Also, note that early 2012
cars were recalled for an oil pump issue.
Finally, look out for misbehaving reversing
cameras, troublesome boot locks and low
oil levels – the engine seems to use a lot
more oil than you might expect. l
