A Division of Macmillan

Dear Director Smith:
I was excited to see the posting for an editorial assistant position with Roaring
Brook Press. I admire your organization’s dedication to children and youth, and I
would be honored to interview for a position that would allow me to develop my
interests in publishing while working on the creative editorial projects that Roaring
Brook Press supports.
My publishing experience coupled with my understanding of children’s educa-
tion make me well-suited for an editorial assistant position with your company. I
worked as an editorial intern at Chronicle Books in San Francisco, where I main-
tained author and permissions databases and collated manuscripts and artwork for
review and production. I also honed my writing skills through critiquing cookbook
proposals and manuscripts based on analysis of the cookbook market.
I have also worked with children in an educational setting. As a volunteer at
the San Antonio Public Library, I organized and created informational displays
aimed at getting children interested in subjects or cultures unfamiliar to them. I
also created games and activities for children based on the books I read to them
during story hour. Through this position, I learned how to communicate with chil-
dren in a creative yet educational way.
I have included my résumé as requested in the job posting, and I can provide
references as required. I look forward to discussing my experiences and perspec-
tives with you in person. I can be contacted at [email protected] or by
phone at (555) 375-7111. Thank you for your kind consideration.

Sincerely,

Ellen Ng
