MOST SUSTAINABLE FANCY RESTAURANTS
Should you win the lottery or have a rich aunt who offers
to treat you to a bucket-list type of splurge, there’s a list
published annually called The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Each year, the restaurant with the highest environmental
and social responsibility rating is given the Sustainable
Restaurant Award, based on criteria evaluated by a partner
organization, the Sustainable Restaurant Association.
The SRA has its own annual awards too, but most of the
recognized restaurants have so far been in the United
Kingdom. For more fancy restaurants based in the United

Jamba Juice and White Castle (yes, you read that right) tied
for the top spot in 2018, with scores of 9, and Panera and Yard
House were close behind with 8.75 and 8.5, respectively. Others
that earned a score of 7 or above included Chipotle, Domino’s,
Maggiano’s, Noodles & Company, Olive Garden, Starbucks, TGI
Fridays, and two elevated convenience store chains, Sheetz
and Wawa.

Since seafood is one of the most complicated things to eat
sustainably, consulting Seafood Watch’s list of restaurant
partners and business partners who champion its stan-
dards allows you to make an intelligent choice with minimal
effort. You want a spot that does not serve items from the
