in the mix, gives us a better sense of the Aonic 50’s
general sound signature. The drums on this track can
sound thunderous on bass-forward models, but here
they sound more natural. They have some bass depth,
but it’s subtle, while Callahan’s baritone vocals pack a
lovely low-mid richness and have extensive treble
presence. The sound signature is bright—we hear more
of the tape hiss than we often do, and the acoustic
strums and percussive hits pack more high-mid
presence in the attack. Those looking for details and
clarity will be pleased.

the kick drum loop receives an ideal high-mid presence,
allowing it to retain its punchiness in the mix. The vinyl
crackle and hiss also take a step forward, a sign of some
boosting and sculpting in the high-mids and highs. The
sub-bass synth hits that punctuate the beat are
delivered with accurate depth, but nothing over the top
like we often hear on bass-forward headphones. The
vocals on this track get excellent clarity, sounding crisp
and clear, perhaps with a smidge of added sibilance, but
it sounds good.
