Step 10: Reveal the Lighthouse Body
Back layer, and make it the active
layer. Currently it looks very similar in
tone to the front. Click on the Cre-
ate New Adjustment Layer icon (half-
black/half-white) circle at the bottom
of the Layers panel, and select Hue/
Saturation. Clip it to the Lighthouse
Body Back layer with Layer>Create
Clipping Mask. In the Properties panel
(Window>Properties), set the Satura-
tion to –34 and the Lightness to –30
to darken the inside of the lighthouse.
Step 11: Click on the Lighthouse
Body Back layer to make it the cur-
rently active layer. Grab the Pen tool
and, in the Options Bar, make sure
its Tool Mode is set to Path and Path
Operations is set to Combine Shapes.
Trace along the curve of the base of
the lighthouse. Then add a point right
at the tip of the revealed front area at
the bottom right. The path leading to
the highest point should cross where
the reference line intersects with the
bottom of the next front spiral shape
(as shown below). The whole point of
the reference line is to show where
the spiral shapes will visually intersect.
