Step 12: With the path still active,
draw the other two paths for the
back of the structure, as shown here.
Remember, the reference line dictates
where the front and back shapes
visually connect, on the top and bot-
tom of the front spiral shapes. Use
the Direct Selection tool to adjust
tangent handles to create smooth
curves along the back shapes. When
finished adjusting the shapes, go to
Layer>Vector Mask>Current Path to
use the paths as a mask on the Light-
house Body Back layer. Now you can
hide the Reference Line layer.
Step 13: Click on the Lighthouse
Body Front layer to make it the active
layer. Click on the Add a Layer Style
icon (ƒx) at the bottom of the Layers
panel, and select Bevel & Emboss.
Set the Depth to 100%, Size to 4 px,
and Soften to 0 px. Uncheck the Use
Global Light option, and set the Angle
to 130° and Altitude to 37°. Set the
Highlight Mode Opacity to 75% and
the Shadow Mode Opacity to 0%.
(Make sure the Highlight Mode is set
to white, and the Shadow Mode is set
to black.)
Then, c lick on Inner Shadow in
the list of Styles on the left side of
the dialog. Set the Blend Mode to
Multiply, the color to black, Opacity
to 48%, Angle to 30°, and Size to 29
px. Click OK to apply the layer styles.
This adds just a slight visual edge to
the layer so it doesn’t look paper-thin.
To save time, Right-c lick on the
fx icon to the right of the Lighthouse
Body Front layer in the Layers panel,
and select Copy Layer Style from the
contextual menu. Then Right-click on
the Lighthouse Body Back layer, and
choose Paste Layer Style.
