› › HOW TO

Step 23: Set the blending mode to Linear
Dodge (Add) to see the effect of the light
streaks. Press Command-T (PC: Ctrl-T) for
Free Transform, scale the effect down to
fit the height of the light structure, and
position the left edge of the bounding
box on the left edge of the light. Hold-
ing the Shift key, drag out the right-center
point to the other side of the document.
Right-click inside the bounding box, and
choose the Perspective option. Click-and-
drag the bottom-right point downward
to widen the side of the texture that’s
opposite the light. Press Enter to commit
the transformation.

Step 24: Duplicate the Light Streaks
layer, flip it horizontally with Edit>Trans-
form>Flip Horizontal, and then use the
Move tool (V) to drag this layer to the
other side of the light. With the Light
Streaks copy layer active, Shift-click the
original Light Streaks layer in the Lay-
ers panel to select them both, and press
Command-G (PC: Ctrl-G) to group them
together. Name the group “Light Streaks
Group.” Add a layer mask to the group
and use another Black, White radial gradi-
ent, as we did on the Flare layer, to mask
out the effect as it travels away from the
lighthouse. If the light streaks seem too
sharp, just run the Motion Blur filter on
each layer again to soften the effect, but
try a Distance value around 400 Pixels.
