For an extra bit of fun, you can also try the Pattern option
on your shape image. It can create some interesting options,
all of which can also be saved.

COLOR THEMES
Let’s open that original photo again and move onto Color
Themes. This tool is also in InDesign, and I love it. It allows
you to manually extract colors from an image and create a
customized swatches group. In this version, there are five
points that you can move around the image to the particular
colors you desire. When you click-and-drag a point, it will
show you a zoomed-in area of the point’s location. Each
selected color will appear above the image, as well as to the
right of the image with Hex color values.

The added beauty of this is that you have additional help
for selecting the colors. Above the swatches on the right
there’s a drop-down option labeled “Color Mood.” The
default is Colorful but you can also select Bright, Muted,
Deep, Dark, or None. (Weirdly, None gives the same val-
ues as Colorful.) When you select one of these options, it

will move all the points on the image to create a new color
theme automatically.
Just click the Save to CC Libraries button to save each
set that you like. It really is that simple. The swatches will
appear in a Color Themes group in your Libraries panel
along with all your other saved assets. Color Theme is
really useful when creating a branded item, because using
colors from an image will complement the design nicely.

GRADIENTS
Now let’s look at the final option in the panel: Gradients.
This is also a fantastic addition to Photoshop 2020, and why
it’s tucked away here is a crime. This option gives you the
power to create bespoke gradients from the colors in your
image that range from 2–15 stops. You don’t get the Color
Mood options as with Color Themes, but with up to 15
stops you can create stunning gradients.
With your image open, just decide how many Gradient
Stops you require and begin to move the points around
the image to generate the colors. Once you’ve created a
satisfying gradient, just click that Save to CC Libraries button
