Each morning, twentysomething Jane is the first to

arrive at the New York production office in which she

works as an assistant; she puts the coffee on, sorts

the post, gets things ready for the day ahead. Later,

ensconced in a small office with two male colleagues,

she is routinely ignored, spoken over and ridiculed.

Worse still, as the day progresses Jane realises that her

boss – a powerful, short-tempered producer – is using

his position to take advantage of the young actresses

who come to him looking for a break. Though she has

no concrete evidence, Jane takes her concerns to the

company’s HR manager, who belittles her then advises

her to keep her mouth shut if she wants to keep her

job. Shaken, Jane returns to her desk and completes

her day. After work she sits alone in the cafe across the

street, before heading home.
