Adverbs of degree can also modify adjectives.
In the following examples all the adverbs modify the adjec-
tive they precede.
It wasextremely hot.The adverb ‘extremely’ modifies the adjective ‘hot’.
He wasvery kind.The adverb ‘very’ modifies the adjective ‘kind’.
She wasterribly upset.The adverb ‘terribly’ modifies the adjective ‘upset’.
He wastoo late for the wedding.The adverb ‘too’ modifies the adjective ‘late’.
Modifying other adverbs
