Now that you ’ ve had your initial meeting with Claudia, your hypothetical client, and drawn up a

task list for the first sprint, it ’ s time to handle the first item on that task list, namely: “ install and

configure CodeIgniter on a development server. ” This one task requires you to acquire, download,

install, and configure CodeIgniter.

The goal of this chapter is to give you the cook ’ s tour of CodeIgniter. The tour covers the core

basics that you need to understand to get up and running with CodeIgniter. After you learn

this foundational information, you can use this chapter (and other resources, specifically

http://www.codeigniter.com ) as a future reference as you build on this knowledge. With any luck,

most of the topics covered in this chapter will become part of your modus operandi from here on

out as a CodeIgniter coder. Without further ado, let ’ s dive in.

Downloading CodeIgniter

You can download the latest and greatest version of CodeIgniter by going to

http://www.codeigniter.com and clicking the Download CodeIgniter button on the home page,

as illustrated in Figure 3 - 1.
