Since a contrived foreign accent is often used to signal that the typical
or logical language of the setting would not be English, it is not surprising
to see that the highest percentage of characters with foreign-accented
English occur in the second type of language setting. But it is also
significant that even more characters with foreign accents appear in stories
set in the U.S. and England (Figure 7.5).
