You know something fun is happening
in town when the striped city greys of
London’s morning commute are shot through
with unexpected flashes of colour – a ruby and
gold Iron Man here, a bright yellow Pikachu
there. By the time the train pulls into ExCel,
it’s packed with superheroes, Jedi Knights and
magical girls. It’s MCM Comic Con weekend –
and fans from across Europe are about to get
their geek on and have a great time!
Making the first of two 2020 appearances on
29-31 May, MCM London is by far the biggest
event of its kind in the UK. Run by ReedPOP,
whose other events include New York Comic
Con (NYCC), Chicago Comic & Entertainment
Expo (C2E2) and the Penny Arcade Expos
(PAX), MCM London is a comic convention in
the American style – a three-day celebration of
all things pop culture, from films, comics and
games to anime, manga and cosplay.
MCM London’s special guest line-ups reflect
the show’s cosmopolitan spirit, with sci-fi,
fantasy and superhero stars from the worlds of
film and TV rubbing shoulders with streamers,
musicians, anime directors and voice actors.
When not taking part in panels and Q&A
sessions on one of Comic Con’s many stages,
you’ll find the show’s headliners meeting fans,
signing autographs and posing for photo-ops.
Joining MCM London’s special guests this
May will be a scintillating selection of comic
book and graphic novel creators; making the

event’s Comic Village area an essential stop
for any fan of sequential art. There you’ll
discover an intriguing mix of big name artists
and writers, inspiring small press and indie
publishers, and up-and-coming local talent.
A newer addition to the show, the Book
Club celebrates the world of the written word
in all its glory, giving visitors the chance
to meet their favourite novelists, unearth
exciting new series and get an insight into the
wonderful creative process.
Other attractions include Side Quest, an area
hosting new and retro games, tabletop titles
and Japanese arcade machines; The Studio,
celebrating all forms of online entertainment,
from YouTube and Tik Tok to Instagram
and Twitch; and PopAsia, a zone devoted to
Japanese food, fashion, anime and manga.
And while many fans come in costume just
for fun, May’s show will also feature official
cosplay masquerades and competitions.
“The first MCM London of 2020 comes
to town packed with exciting exhibitors,
exclusive content, interactive experiences
and – of course – an awesome array of special
guests,” says Kahlil Schweitzer, MCM Event
Manager. “Whatever aspects of pop culture
you’re into, MCM London Comic Con is the
place to be this May!”

MCM London Comic Con 2020 will be held at
ExCeL London on 29-31 May.
