debuting at some
point during the
company’s next
fiscal year will be coming to
PS5, with this Brexit-’em-up
leading the charge.
CEO Yves Guillemot told all
in a recent conference call with
investors, saying, “When you
come early on the next
generation of consoles, you can
sell your games for a long time.
So we are very happy to be
close to the launch of [PS5]
because it’s going to benefit all
the games we launch.”
While we’re already living the
Brexit nightmare/fantasy (take
your pick) in merrie olde
England, we’re hoping there will
be more than a few degrees of
separation between our
mundane reality and this
dystopic vision. We can only
hope for face masks as
fashionable as those of our

BIG BEN DATA
DedSec is back and looking for
more than a few helping hands.
This time, rather than a
Stateside hackathon,
England is in need
of some cyber-
vigilante justice.
DedSec is staring
down not only an
oppressive surveillance
state and a private
military outfit, Albion, which
has usurped local law
enforcement, but also a shady
organised crime syndicate.

PS5 GAMES PREVIEW

our favourite mascot from
Tolkien’s epic fantasy series is
back, and he’s got a radical new
game all about him. This time the little
scamp gets a makeover, as Daedalic
Entertainment (known for its Deponia
adventure games) is putting its own spin
on the character.
As the dev is famous for its point-and-
click titles, it’s clear from the start that
Gollum is going to be a departure from
some of the more recent action-packed
Middle-earth-set videogames. Expect a
much bigger focus on narrative. The story
follows Gollum between the events of The
Hobbit and when we catch up with him in

The Lord Of The Rings, chronicling what
he was up to after losing the One Ring he
was obsessed with.
Before becoming Gollum, he was
known as Sméagol, and at various points
in the game you need to decide which
personality to side with, making narrative
decisions that change how the game
plays out. It’s not quite clear what the
gameplay will be beyond that, but you can
expect plenty of Gollumy action. Some
familiar characters will appear, such as
the Nazgûl, so it might lead Gollum on a
quest from the Misty Mountains closer to
Mordor, perhaps in an attempt to find out
more about the One Ring he so covets?

ou already know we love the
Sniper Elite series (and sister
shooter Zombie Army). What’s
not to love about X-ray vision and
bone-cracking bullets? And what better
way to evolve the series than with new
hardware allowing for even gorier kills?
If there’s one question we have about the
tech underneath PS5’s hood it’s simply
this: how many fragments will we be able
to shatter a skull into?
But turn that sniper scope back on us
instead of the enemy and you’ll see a
pleasing warm glow emanating from our
fleshy brains. The crunchy gore of Sniper

Elite might be a delight, but it’s far from
the only thing going for the series. It’s a
thinking person’s game too. Not only does
it capture the thrill of long-range bullet
hurling, it distills the whole experience of
being a sniper in enemy territory. Splatter
enemy innards everywhere, and, um,
people will probably notice? They’ll hunt
you down. One of the most exciting
features as the series continues to evolve
is how Rebellion builds out enemy AI to
react in interesting ways, pushing us to
continue to be stealthy and unpredictable,
staying on the move, to stay one
mind-mush ahead of the enemy.

PS5 GAMES PREVIEW

Are we ready for
Sniper Elite 5’s gore
in 8K detail? Oh yeah!

GOD OF WAR 2
The long-rumoured
sequel is still
long-rumoured.
However, we know DLC
was in the works and it
was so good dev Santa
Monica Studio pulled it to
expand into a followup,
so there will be more
Kratos adventures.
ASSASSIN’S
CREED (KINGDOM)
The rumoured
Nordic-set follow-up
to Odyssey is said to
span not just Norway,
Sweden, and Denmark
but also the north of
England. At the time of
writing the next
Assassin’s Creed is still
not official, but we
expect it on Sony’s
next-gen console
PROJECT
AWAKENING
First announced for PS4
in 2017, then again in
2019, this is Cygames’
first new IP on console.
The developer behind
Granblue Fantasy has
set up a team dedicated
to this Dark-Souls-
meets-Monster-Hunter:
World roleplayer.
Inspired by Lord Of
The Rings, Project
Awakening promises
12-player co-op
adventuring.
BATTLEFIELD 6
Confirmed for PS5 in a
shareholder report by
EA, but with zero details
of merit, the next
Battlefield game from
DICE will be on PS5. It’s
likely to be released in
2021, and we’d bet on an
October release date
GTA VI
The Dan Houser-less
next Grand Theft Auto
is still unconfirmed as
we write, but it’s also
one of the world’s
worst-kept secrets that
a next-gen game in the
series is coming. It’s
rumoured to be an
’80s-set prequel that
could feature cameos
from previous GTAs.
CYBERPUNK
2077
While it’s been confirmed
for The Other Console as
we go print there’s no
word on whether this
RPG is heading
to PS5. We
expect it will,
but the
question is
will it be
patched or
will we get
a PS5-only
edition?
