Selfless

You’re an example

to all of us, Queen

tells health heroes

THE Queen sent a message of
“enduring appreciation and good
wishes” to health workers
everywhere to mark World Health
Day yesterday.
Her statement was released in a
video montage posted on the
monarchy’s social media accounts
showing members of the Royal
Family meeting NHS staff.
It started with a photo of the
Queen, now 93, greeting nurses in
Glasgow in 2015 before going on to
feature pictures of Prince Charles
and Camilla, Prince William and
Kate, Princess Anne and Prince
Edward on similar outings.

In subtitles, the Queen’s statement
read: “I want to thank all those
working in the healthcare profession
for your selfless commitment and
diligence as you undertake vitally
important roles to protect and
improve the health and well-being
of people.
“In testing times, we often
observe that the best of the human
spirit comes to the fore; the
dedication to service of countless
nurses, midwives and other health
workers, in these most challenging
of circumstances, is an example
to us all. My family and I send
our enduring appreciation and
good wishes.”
Her message came two days after
her televised address to the nation
about coronavirus.

Grateful...the Queen on her hospital visit to Glasgow in 2015

Rathod, 58, who worked at the
University Hospital of Wales in
Cardiff, had died in the
hospital’s intensive care unit.
Meanwhile eight-year-old
Megan White, from Kent,
painted a poster saying “I love
the NHS” after her father Dave
died of the virus.
Mum Claire, 42, said: “She
told me she did it because the
NHS had tried to help her
daddy. I just burst into tears.”
Supermarket boss Dave had
been working long hours to
restock items stripped off
shelves by panic buyers early
on in the pandemic.

A MUM is warning other families to
stay at home after her 12-week-old
baby caught coronavirus.
Winter-Rose Watson was admitted
to hospital on Friday with a fever
and breathing difficulties.
Single mother Jade, 27, said: “On
Thursday she had a really bad
temperature, it was about 38.5C
[101F]. So I contacted 111 and they
advised me to stay at home.
“But at 5am on Friday I’d set my
alarm to check on her and she’d got
really warm, even more than she

was before. I didn’t even need to
touch her, there was heat just
coming off her. She was gasping for
breath. I called for an ambulance but
it took three hours to get here.”
At hospital Winter-Rose was put
on a drip and given antibiotics as
doctor tried to work out what was
wrong. Test results on Saturday
revealed she had Covid-19.
Jade, of Burnley, Lancs, said: “It
was the worst experience of my life,

I was so scared to see my baby
struggling like that. I couldn’t believe
what was happening. I’m so grateful
she was able to pull through.”
Two days after Winter-Rose was
admitted she was deemed well
enough to go home. She and Jade
are now self-isolating while Jade’s
six-year-old son stays with his dad.
Jade said: “I’d only been out
of the house really to go to Lidl
and Home Bargains but people
need to listen to the advice and
stay indoors.”
