A bigchangeis comingtotheworldofvideogamingasMicrosoft,

Google and Apple go head-to-head to create a streaming future.

When Netflix arrived
in Australia it changes
the way we watched TV
forever. Suddenly, for a
very small price, you could
watch movies or TV shows
whenever you wanted over
the internet. You didn’t even
need a big hard-drive, or
some sort of movie player,
to make it work. It just
came straight through an
app onto your TV, mobile,
console or tablet.

Now it looks like the next big
thing in streaming is going
to be video games. Similar
to Netflix, these video game
services don’t involve owning
a console, a handheld or a
super powerful PC. Instead,
you subscribe to an app, and
then from within that app you
can play any game they have
available for as long as you
want and as many times as you
want.
This past month, not one,

but three, games streaming
services have been announced
and they are all expected to
come out in 2019. That’s right:
by Christmas time you could
actually be streaming full video
game experiences and playing
them on any device! The three
companies involved are Apple,
Google and Microsoft. Let’s
have a closer look at each of
their services and keep an eye
on KRASH for more details
throughout the year.

GOOGLE STADIA: This service will use all
the Google servers around the world, as well
as the Google Chrome browser, to let people
play games. It can handle up to 4K resolution,
which is huge, and 60 frames per second – so
basically, the highest-end games available
today. It will come with its own controller,

and will work on phones, desktops, laptops and
TVs - plus you can pause on one device and then
start playing on another. What sounds particularly
cool is the way Stadia interacts with the way you
surf the internet. If you’re watching a game trailer
on YouTube, for example, at the end you can just
press a “Play Now” button and start the game!
