Dolittle
It’s 19th-century England, and eccentric
physician Dr. John Dolittle (Robert Downey,
Jr.) has isolated himself behind the high walls
of his lush manor after his wife’s death, with
only an array of exotic animals – to which he
regularly speaks – for company. But when
young Queen Victoria (Jessie Buckley) falls ill,
he is forced to embark on an epic adventure
in search of a cure.
FIVE FACTS:
- Dolittle is based on the titular character
created by English author Hugh Lofting. - It is largely inspired by Lofting’s second
Doctor Dolittle book, 1922’s The Voyages of
Doctor Dolittle. - Downey, Jr. and Buckley are joined in the
live-action cast by Harry Collett, Antonio
Banderas and Michael Sheen, while Emma
Thompson and Rami Malek have voice roles. - This is not the first Doctor Dolittle film,
others having included 1967’s Doctor Dolittle,
1998’s Dr. Dolittle and 2001’s Dr. Dolittle 2, the
latter two starring Eddie Murphy. - Dolittle grossed $223,343,452
worldwide, against a $175,000,000
production budget.
