Edward Hopper:
A Fresh Look
at Landscape
Ulf Küster (ed.)
The major spring
exhibition at
Switzerland’s Fondation Beyeler focuses on
the 20th-century American painter Edward
Hopper. With the doors to the Basel
gallery temporarily closed, this exhibition
catalogue provides the only chance to see
the many works brought together.
The spontaneous nature of Hopper’s
watercolours, often painted quickly on
location, are celebrated in lush
reproductions, while several essays make
the case that the endless expanse of the
American landscape is the key to truly
understanding his cinematic oil paintings.

The eccentric, creative
and unorthodox Pop
Artist deserved an
eccentric, creative and unorthodox
catalogue. This accompaniment to the
Tate Modern exhibition (currently on hold
but set to run until 6 September) is
exactly that, featuring curator essays,
an interview with Factory insider Bob
Colacello, and a Warhol A-Z from The
Lonely City author Olivia Laing.
The bold, simple design by London
studio The Bon Ton neatly references old
layouts in Warhol’s Interview magazine.
