- Jump the image to a new layer and flip it. Press Ctrl-J (-J)
to create a copy of the image on a new layer. Then choose
Edit→Transform→Flip Horizontal to create a reversed version
of the image that has the good cheek on the left side. Your Lay-
ers panel should look like the one in Figure 4-33. - Choose a source point from Layer 1. In the Layers panel, make
sure that Layer 1 is active, and then Alt-click (Option-click)
midway along the girl’s jaw line, as shown in Figure 4-34. Based
on the information in your cursor, you’ll see that you now have
a source point that’s much better suited to the healing that we
want to do in the Background layer. - Turn off visibility for Layer 1. Click the next to the thumb-
nail for Layer 1 so that you can see the Background layer under-
neath. Then click the Background layer so that it’s active. You
can’t delete Layer 1 because it’s the source of healing informa-
tion, but you can make it invisible. - Enlarge the brush to see the angle of the texture information.
Press the key several times to make the brush unreasonably
large at 400 pixels. As you can see in Figure 4-35, this allows
you to really see the angle of the source information that you’re
working with inside the cursor and make an assessment as to
how effective it will be for healing your destination area. The
angle is slightly off from what we need to heal the pirate’s scar.
