- Set the guidelines to the final image boundary. In Photoshop
files, the boundaries of any individual layer are not necessarily
the boundaries of the visible document. This phenomenon is
known as big layer, and it means that you can have content on
any given layer that extends beyond the document itself. Before
we examine this big layer information, we’re going to use guide-
lines to make a record of where we want the final image edges:- If you can’t see beyond the edges of the image, press the F
key to change to Full Screen mode. - If the ruler is not already visible, press Ctrl+R (-R) to view
the horizontal and vertical rulers. Rulers are the easiest
starting point when creating new guides. - Place your cursor over the horizontal ruler at the top of the
image window and drag out a new guide. You should see a
double-arrow cursor and a line indicating the position of the
new guide (as you can see on the right side of Figure 5-10). - When the line gets to the upper edge of the image, Photo-
shop should snap the guide into place, at which point you
can release your mouse button.
- If you can’t see beyond the edges of the image, press the F
If you don’t experience a snapping sensation when the guide gets to the
top of the image, choose View→Snap to→Document Bounds.
- From the top ruler, drag out another guide for the bottom
edge of the image. Then from the vertical ruler, drag out
two more guides and set them at the left and right edges
of the image, as shown in Figure 5-10.
