- Create an Invert adjustment layer. To make this image stand
out on my Web site, I want to change it so that the bright colors
appear against a black background as opposed to the current
white one. We could invert each layer by hand, but then we’d
need to alter the blend modes manually as well. Changing all
three glass layers at once with an Invert adjustment layer is
easier and ultimately more flexible.
Alt-click (Option-click) the at the bottom of the Layers panel
and choose Invert from the pop-up menu. In the New Layer
dialog box, change the name of the layer to simply “Invert” and
click OK. The result, as you can see in Figure 5-22, is an inver-
sion of the entire image, including the colors of the glassware.

- Move the Invert layer below the Colors layer. With the Invert
layer still selected, press Ctrl+ (-+ ) to move it down one
layer in the stacking order, below the Colors layer, so that it no
longer inverts the colors on the Colors layer. Your image should
look like Figure 5-23.
Note that the Adjustment panel will pop up with
an announcement that invert has no options. No
sliders or nuances here, just pure inversion.
