26. Add a Stroke effect. Adding a stroke is
    a great way to thicken letters when fonts
    are too lightweight for your composition,
    as is the case with the Zapfino lettering
    in the logo. With the Layer Style dialog
    box still open, click Stroke at the bottom
    of the list on the left. The dialog box will
    change to settings for your new effect, as
    you can see in Figure 5-41. Here’s how
    we’ll set the stroke:
    
    
    • Click the Color swatch, and in the Se-
      lect Stroke Color version of the color
      picker window, enter a Brightness (B)
      value of 100 percent. Click OK.
    
    
    • Set the Size value to 4 pixels.
      Leave the other values as they are and
      click OK.

The two buttons at the bottom of the Layer Style dialog box (see Figure 5-41)
are new to CS5. If you use a particular effect more often than any other, you
can establish it as your go-to style by using the Make Default button. If you
want to return to Photoshop’s idea of a default, click Reset to Default.

You can see the result of both effects in Figure 5-42. Each effect

has its own listing under the Martini Hour layer. You can sup-

press these effects independently by clicking off their respective

icons. If you want to adjust an effect’s settings, simply double-

click the effect entry to return to the Layer Style dialog box.
