Adobe Photoshop CS5 One-on-One

(やまだぃちぅ) #1

  1. Save your changes. Choose File→Save or press Ctrl+S (-S) to
save your changes to the smart object inside the layered com-
position. Then close the window that contains the mean green
germ by clicking the box in the title bar ( on the Mac) or by
pressing Ctrl+W (-W). A moment later, Photoshop updates
the three germs—scaled, flipped, and warped to our specifi-
cations—without losing a smidgen of quality. Nice work! You
finished the revision with time to spare.

  2. Turn on the Extras group. Back in the Layers panel, click the
empty box to the left of the group labeled Extras to turn on its
icon and reveal a few additional lines of text that round out
our advertisement, all visible in Figure 7-23.

  1. Export the contents of the Germ smart object. As I mentioned,
Photoshop maintains no link to the original Germ.psd file on
disk. So if you were to alter the original file after placing it as
a smart object, none of your changes would affect the ad. But
what if the clients are so happy with the modified germs that
they want a version to use in other print material? The answer:
    Export the smart object.
Right-click (or Control-click) any one of the Germ layers in the
Layers panel and choose Export Contents. Go ahead and ac-
cept the default filename and click OK.

In addition to Illustrator and Photoshop files,
DNG and other native camera files can be
placed as smart objects. This means never
having to relinquish control over your import
settings. After placing the photo, double-click
its thumbnail in the Layers panel and up comes
the Camera Raw dialog box, with all your
import settings in place. Tweak the settings as
desired and click OK to redevelop the image.
