The 18th-century Sternberg Palace has been home to
the National Gallery’s collection of European art since
- Franz Josef Sternberg founded the Society of
Patriotic Friends of the Arts in Bohemia in 1796.
Fellow noblemen would lend their finest sculp tures
and pictures to the society, which had its head quarters
in the Sternberg Palace. The Baroque build ing has a
superb range of works by Old Masters.

image of a Renaissance collection of antiquities.
