Observation Terraces
The observation terraces on Gellért Hill offer
spectacular views of the southern part of Buda
and the whole of Pest.

Rock Church
This church was established in
1926 in a holy grotto. Under the
Communists, the Pauline Order
of monks was forced to abandon the
church, but it was reopened in 1989.

THE RESERVOIR
To sup ply the capital with
drink ing water, in 1978, a
new reservoir was built
near Uránia Obser va tory
to the north west of Gellért
Hill. The surface of the
reservoir is covered over
and provides a point from
which to observe the
Royal Palace (see pp338–
9) to the north. A sculp-
ture by Márta Lesenyei
decorates the structure.

Rudas Baths, with decorative Ottoman
cupolas, are famous Turkish baths that
date from the 16th century.
