Occupying a historic riverside building, Zlata Ribica, or the Little Goldfish, is a pleasant spot to sample a
traditional Slovene menu of grilled fish. Adriatic brodet (fish soup) and treats from inland Slovenia such as štrukli
(baked cheese dumplings), hearty pork and game dishes are also available. The lunch menus are very affordable.

This family-owned pub-restaurant serves Slovene staples such as grilled sausage, veal cutlets and freshwater
fish. Its signature dish idrijski žlikrofi (ravioli stuffed with potato or mushrooms) is usually served with either

This restaurant 5 km (3 miles) west of Kobarid has established itself as a cult destination for creative cuisine.
The imaginative menu features fish and game as the main ingredients, garnished with organic vegetables; there

A family-run restaurant just off the town square, Kotlar features a boat-shaped bar at one end of the dining
room. Adriatic seafood is the main attraction, with squid, lobster and shellfish dominating the menu. Known
for its speciality dessert kobariški štruklji (dumplings with walnut filling). Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

This highly regarded hotel-restaurant near the ski trails offers an eclectic menu of meat, game and seafood.
Grilled Adriatic fish is served with blitva (spinach-like greens) from Dalmatia. Other local specialities include
pasta dishes dressed with Istrian truffles. A rich selection of Slovene wines complements the tasty meals.

The Gril Ranca’s Balkan-styled grilled meats are not strictly Slovenian but extremely popular with local diners.
Favourites include čevapčiči (grilled minced-meat rissoles), pljeskavice (hamburger-style patties) and vešalice
(grilled pork skewers). The beautiful riverside location is an added attraction.

A cosy café-bar on a picturesque Mediterranean square, Čakola has a unique interior with its modern lounge
bar set in a 19th-century living room. A popular pub, it also offers speciality teas, fresh sandwiches and platters

A seafood restaurant, Neptun is located in a quiet street a few steps away from the main square and there are few
better places in Piran to sample expertly grilled fresh Adriatic fish. There is also a good choice of

This centrally located restaurant and bar specializes in štruklji (cheesy dumpling-style pastries), a traditional
staple of Slovene cuisine. The menu also offers plenty of mainstream veal and pork dishes, alongside traditional
treats such as žganci (a buckwheat-based crumble) served with chopped liver.

Situated just outside central Ptuj, Ribič is a traditional riverside inn with a big outdoor terrace. The menu
offers a good choice of freshwater fish and seafood as well as plenty of seasonal specials, notably game.
