Construction of the Franciscan
Monastery (Franjevački
Samostan) began in 1317 and
was completed in the follow-
ing century. It was almost
entirely rebuilt after the
earthquake in 1667. However,
the Venetian Gothic south
door, dating from 1499, along
with a 15th-century marble
pulpit and the cloister,
escaped undamaged.
One side of the cloister
leads to the Pharmacy (Stara
Ljekarna), in use since 1317,
lined with shelves of alembics,
measuring appar atus and jars.
The capitular room of the
monastery is home to the
Franciscan Museum (Muzej
Franjevačkog Samostana), with
religious art, pharmaceutical
instruments and a library.
