Belgium and Luxembourg (Eyewitness Travel Guides)

(WallPaper) #1
Aptly called Petite Suisse (Little Switzerland), this
segment of the Germano-Luxembourg Nature Park
has steep, twisting valleys made intimate by wood-
lands, rushing streams and dramatic rock formations.
Tours take a scenic route to Beaufort castle and to the
Ernz Noire valley via Müllerthal village. Müllerthal is
also used to refer to Petite Suisse Luxembourgeoise as
a whole. Stop-off points along the way give access to
signposted paths that go deeper into the landscape.

Berdorf 3
A centre for rock-climbing,
the area around Berdorf vil-
lage has numerous marked
paths for walkers. Rising
above a plateau, the spire-
cum-watertower of Berdorf’s
church is a noted landmark.

Predigstuhl 4
Named for its shape, the Predigstuhl
(Pulpit) is one of many strange rock
formations in the region.

Gorge du Loup 2
A walk close to Echternach
leads to this Wolf Gorge, with
its cleft between two towering
walls of rock. Steps lead up to
a spectacular viewpoint.

Echternach 1
This old abbey town
is the main urban
centre in the region,
as well as a hub for
activity holidays.

Werschrumschluff 5
Close to the Predigstuhl,
the Werschrumschluff is
an immense rock crevice,
just wide enough for a
walker to pass through.

Beaufort 6
Extensive ruins of a
12th–16th-century
castle, in a wooded
valley, stand ready
to be explored. The
village of Beaufort is
noted for its blackcur-
rant liqueur, Cassero.

Müllerthal 7
The Schiessentümpel bridge and its triple waterfall are set
amid woodland. This is a famous beauty spot in the valley
of Ernz Noire, which is often referred to as the Müllerthal.
