SHOPPING IN BRUSSELS 87
BEER
Supermarkets such as Match,
GB (which have many outlets)
and Delhaize (see p305) offer
most of the country’s finest
beers. For rarer finds, as well
as appropriate glasses for each
beer, gift boxes and other beer
paraphernalia, Beer Mania,
De Bier Tempel and Délices
et Caprices are recommended.
Beer glasses can also be found
at the Marolles flea market.
Place has many chocolate
shops, but true devotees will
want to head for the Place
du Grand Sablon, location of
the Wittamer shop and café,
which produces some of the
finest chocolates and cakes
in Brussels. Close by is Pierre
Marcolini, a more recent star
in the chocolate firmament.
COMICS
Brüsel has a vast collection of
comics in French, Dutch and
English. It also has a gallery
of framed original art for sale
on the second floor. Utopia
leans towards American super-
hero strips and science fiction,
but also has Japanese anime
titles. A short walk from the
Grand Place, La Boutique
Tintin offers an interesting
variety of Tintin-imprinted
knickknacks. The Centre Belge
de la Bande Desinée (see p62)
has one of the better stocked
comic stores in the city.
section. Nestled among the
high-fashion boutiques of Rue
Antoine Dansaert is Passa
Porta, which calls itself a
trilingual bookstore and an
“international house of
literature”. Besides these,
there is the exhaustive French
book and CD emporium, Fnac.
