THEATRE

The most important Belgian
theatre is the Théâtre National,
which stages high-quality
produc tions of mainly French
classics. Young Belgian
playwrights are showcased at
the private Théâtre Le Public,
while French 20th-century
and burl esque pieces are
staged in the beautifully res-
tored Théâtre Royal du Parc.
The main Dutch-language
company is the Koninklijke
Vlaamse Schouwburg (KVS)
or the Royal Flemish Theatre,
which uses several venues
clustered in central Brussels.

CINEMA

The massive Kinepolis
Bruxelles at Laeken boasts
25 screens for the latest
blockbusters, always in their
original languages. Mainstream
cinema can also be enjoyed at
the two other central UGC
cine plexes. A more intriguing
ambience and eclectic line-up
of films can be found at the
Arenberg-Galeries. The Nova
offers truly indepen dent films,
while the Actors Studio show-
cases foreign and art cinema.
Movy Club screens mainstream
films in opulent Art Deco
movie-palace surroundings.

the latin-flavoured Mappa
Mundo, popular Le Roi des
Belges and elegant Gecko.
The most renown ed club in

its repu tation for having top-
name techno and dance DJs.
Once a month, it holds La
Demence, a gay night that
draws inter rnational crowds.
