Emumu animal sculpture of the Bobongo (Lyembe).
Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Wood, pigments, horn, glass, length: 217 cm.
Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren, Belgium.

Used in Bobongo choregraphy including ritual, song, dance, music, acrobatics,
recitings, and diverse artefacts, as well during the funeral of an important
person. Though captivating spectators with wonder, the tall sculptures were
destroyed after use.
