That customer has since created some inspirational food and
beverage businesses and we have supplied him with a lot of
coffee. The loyalty we created by not making a huge fuss over
the debt has benefited our business enormously and, needless
to say, that customer wouldn’t consider taking his coffee
business elsewhere.
The twist in the story is that customer was Johnnie. Sometimes
you need to sit back and look at the bigger picture in relation to
your customers and sometimes you have to take the rough with
the smooth. Never underestimate the long term value of a loyal
customer. Your business should always be structured on this
premise and not on the individual “quick buck” scenario.
