212 THE CREATIVE INVESTMENT TEAM
Delivery area this year. Specifically, the work this summer regard-
ing our Employee Development initiative.
In July, we requested that you facilitate a meeting regarding
the challenge of building a corporate wide Employee Develop-
ment Process. You had a lively crew to work with including sev-
eral Directors and Senior Managers that would be very opinion-
ated.
We loved the “Visible Thinking” facilitation method you took
us through and felt your approach was perfect for our needs.
As a results of your efforts we were able to
- Develop a shared vision - no small task!
- Prioritize 15 components of work
- Create a visual model of our strategy
- Establish an implementation timeline
In summary, the “Visible Thinking” process allowed us to
successfully navigate through a crucial building phase of this ini-
tiative with relative ease.
The point, again, in all of this is that creativity depends on
creating a safe place where basic tools can be used for generating
and processing ideas. The brain dump, with its emphasis on creat-
ing a map by making our thoughts visible, is a powerful and effi-
cient tool to keep in your brainstorming kit.
This chapter has covered a few tools and techniques for group
creativity. The next chapter gets personal with a few techniques
that I’ve found useful.
