About the Authors
Thomas L. Busby, the founder and CEO of DTI, has been a professional
securities trader for more than 25 years. He began his trading career with
Merrill Lynch, and before DTI opened its doors in 1996, he was a vice pres-
ident with Salomon Smith Barney.
Tom earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the
University of Georgia and a juris doctorate degree from Oklahoma City
University School of Law. He was a distinguished graduate of the United
States Air Force Budget Officer School, and served seven years as an officer
in the United States Air Force prior to becoming a professional securities
broker and trader. Tom is well respected in his field and is a member of
both the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) and the Chicago Board of
Trade (CBOT).
Tom suffered a great financial setback during the crash of 1987. When
the market tanked, he was overleveraged in the options market. Many
traders would have left the arena after such a loss, but not Tom. He per-
sisted and immersed himself in his work by studying and analyzing the
markets. Out of his defeat came a new determination to improve his ap-
proach and become a better trader. Over the years he has developed a
unique method whereby the avoidance of risk has become his primary fo-
cus and profit taking has assumed a second-row seat. This approach has
served him and his students well. Tom’s trading method incorporates more
than two decades of experience; he is a veteran of many bullish as well as
bearish cycles, and he freely shares his knowledge and experience with his
students.
Tom is a frequent contributor to a variety of trading publications. Over
the years Tom has written many articles covering a wide array of trading
topics. He is also the co-author ofWinning the Day Trading Gameand
The Markets Never Sleep, both published by John Wiley and Sons.
Tom and his wife, Paula, have been married for more than two decades.
Their sons, Winston and Morgan, are also traders and work with their
father at DTI.
