An essential tool foranything involving
interior components. Astandard, medium-
sized crosshead screwdriver will do the job
foralmost all screw sizes commonly
found within adesktop,fromthe
thumbscrews holding the side
panels in place to smaller screws
used formounting components to
the chassis. Magnetic-tipped
screwdrivers are fine –the magnetic
fieldwon’t be strong enough to cause
damage –but don’t use electric screwdrivers
with delicatecomponents.
ANTIìSTATIC WRISTBAND
Static electricity can damage PC parts, so
you should always wear loose-fitting
clothing when modding and
ground yourself on ametal
object such as ametal pipe
before starting. Ideally,
you should also wear an
anti-static wristband,
which will prevent further
build-up of static as you’re
working. Youcan buy straps that plug the
grounding wire intoamains socket,but if
your workspace isn’t close enough to themains, get one with acrocodile clip and
attach it to agrounding object.THERMAL PASTE
You’ll only need this if you’re replacing the
CPU cooler, but even if the new cooler has
pastepre-applied, it’s agood idea to have
some spare just in case.When
applying thermal paste, completely
clean both the CPU and the
cooler’s contact plate, then
apply asmall blob in the middle
of the CPU and press down the
cooler to spread it evenly.
