Garth Hudson moved in with his bandmates Manuel and
Danko, and Robertson and his future wife, Dominique, took
a place nearby. If this period of Dylan and the Band’s rock-
ing-and-rolling life is preserved in the minds of their fans
as some kind of up-country idyll, well, that’s fine—it actu-
ally was that. Robertson said later that everyone remembers
the period with great affection, that it marked the first time
since they were kids that they hadn’t been heading to a gigIT IS KNOWN THAT DYLAN WOULD
sometimes sneak back into Hibbing
unannounced. He didn’t necessarily hold
court at Zimmy’s, the local bar and grill upon
whose walls some of the rare photographs
seen in this book hung (Zimmy’s closed in
2014), but he did go back on occasion. It is
certain he remembers as well the times with
friends and his kid down at the bakery in
Woodstock, before crazies from all over the
