s winter ends, the earth begins to
rejuvenate and bring new life to
the surface. One of the most beautiful
moments is when colors spring forth from
blossoming flowers. Throughout March,
Lotton Gallery in Chicago will mark
this seasonal change with the exhibition
Spring Flowers focusing on the return of
vegetation. Elaborating on that, gallery
director Christina Franzoso says, “Our
exhibition Spring Flowers is a celebra-
tion of new life and a new season, always
remembering to stop to smell the flowers
and allow dreams to blossom.”
Gelena Pavlenko’s A Sunshiny Day
is one of the standout pieces in the
exhibition. “When I drew this painting,
I was inspired by the rosebush that was
next to my house in a village,” she says.
“The smell of the roses was spreading
through the street and of course
I wanted to represent it on canvas.”
Always inspired by life, Yana Movchan
often chooses the objects and colors for
her works based on what she is doing at
that moment. For her painting Born to
Fly, she was inspired in particular by the
vibrancy of the flowers, which she found
uplifting. “[There is a] little bird full of
