Based on European folklore,

this game’s story focuses

on a girl and her elk, who

only just manage to escape

a village massacre. It’s a

large world, so travelling by

elk will be necessary, but

as it’s a skittish creature

you’ll need to put in the

time to befriend it and keep

it calm early in the game.

Bizarre creatures stalk the

land, and their attacks are

punishing. In the – dare we

say it? – Dark Souls-esque

combat you need to make

sure you make each swing

count, and stay out of reach

of enemies. Clearing areas

and opening gates soyour

elk can keep up andjourney

with you are a must.

remastered for PS4, and

the long-awaited third game

is out later this year. It’s

centred around Class VII in a

military school, whose pupils

are a hitherto unheard-of

mix of social classes. The

series is an ongoing epic

that sees each character

grow significantly over the

course of each title – but

this entry has catch-up

material too. The Empire’s

newly annexed lands are the

focus, and theteam-based

combat systemis allabout

being a squad.

Captain Ashley S Nowak is

a titular Riftbreaker, tasked

with exploring a new planet

through a one-way portal

and making it habitable

for colonisation. It’s a

solo mission, but Ashley is

joined by her AI mecha suit

Mr Riggs. Together they

must explore the strange

planet of Galatea 37, facing

dangers and establishing

a base. The Riftbreaker

blends together elements

of hack-and-slash, survival,

and base building, providing

a fair amount of depth in

each element. Ashley has to

be as at home with building

pipes for waterasshe is

with taking downaggressive

alien predators.

dimension, Trine 4 moves

The beautiful world of Valdi is divided

into four regions, one for each of

the four seasons, complete with a

guardian who protects and controls that

season. When Ary’s guardian brother

meets with tragedy, she inherits the

winter medallion, and is thrust into a 3D

platforming quest. Moving across Valdi you

have to control the seasons to affect the

environment, eventually being able to create

and control up to three biome orbs at once.
