1 Using articles
Unless they are uncountable, all nouns need an article when used in the singular. The article
can be either a/anor the. Compare:
(a) The Central Bank has reduced the cost of borrowing again.
(b)She went to abank to change some dollars.
In (a), a specific bank is identified.
In (b), the name of the bank is not important.

2 Definite articles
The rules for using the(the definite article) are quite complex.
Decide why it is used, or not used, in the following examples.
(a) The world’s largest motor manufacturer by revenue is Volkswagen.
(b) The USA was founded in the eighteenth century.
