In the remote town of Jackeys Marsh, in Tasmania’s Meander
Valley, Rosemary Norwood grows vegetables with her partner,
Sean Cadman. However, when she posted a photo on social
media of a gigantic-sized cabbage from her garden, she did
not expect it to be reported via news outlets all over the
world. Norwood explained that the cabbage was the first giant
vegetable that she had grown and said, “I’m not attempting to
grow giant vegetables for the sake of it, we grow vegetables
for our guests at our eco-lodge. This one looked like it was
doing really well so we left it.” The eco-lodge owners and their
guests consumed the cabbage over two weeks. However, it will
never be known if the vegetable was an actual record-breaker
because it was never weighed. Norwood also grows lettuce,
beans, peas, carrots, tomatoes, zucchinis, rhubarb and apples.

When a German yachtsman
was knocked overboard into
rough seas off the east coast
of New Zealand, he managed
to fashion his own jeans into
a makeshift life jacket which
he believes saved his life.
Aren Murke was sailing with
his brother when the yacht’s
boom unexpectedly knocked
him into the water. The
30-year-old was swept away
by the swell, however, with
quick thinking created an
improvised life vest. Murke
removed his jeans and tied
knots at the ends of the legs,
pulled them over the water

to capture air inside and
finally forced them under
to then trap the air. The
jeans kept the sailor afloat
for over three hours until a
rescue helicopter located and
picked him up. Murke told
reporters, “Luckily, I knew
the trick... without the jeans
I wouldn’t be here today.
They were really the thing
that saved me.”
