KINGDOM HEARTS: THE STORY SO FAR
If you’relooking
for a big new
action RPG to
immerse yourself in,
this new indie game is well
worth a look. It’s set in
Norse mythology, which is
like a combination of the
medieval Viking world with
fantasy elements. You play
as an elf who must save
eleven kind from a dreadful
curse by rescuing the last
oftheunicorns.Sometimes
the story also switches to
another character, a Viking,
to help mix up the action
- although sadly there is
no co-op. This is a full, 3D
experience, with a detailed
world to explore. There’s
a suite of RPG mechanics,
asking you to upgrade and
level-up your characters
as you go. Combat occurs
in real-time, with typical
light,heavy and special
attacks, as well as a dodge
roll. There are boss battles
to take on as well, but
we wouldn’t call this a
particularly tough game.
It is an indie title, too, so
you need to be ready for
some simple visual and
movement elements, and
some dodgy camera angles.
But this shouldn’t stop you
from checking it out.
If you’ve fallen in
love with the just
leased Kingdom
Hearts III then you may
want to play the rest of
the story. The series has
been unfolding for decades
and there are hundreds of
hours of gameplay to enjoy
from the previous games,
all of which are now in
one place. This collection
- which is less than $70 –
includes a whopping eight
games and one movie.
This includes the latest
HD remastered versions
of Kingdom Hearts I and
Kingdom Hearts II, as well
as the spin-offs Re:Chain
of Memories, 358/2 Days,
Birth by Sleep, Re:coded,
Dream Drop Distance
and Birth by Sleep: A
fragmentary passage. It’s
an incredible amount of
gaming, but you do have
to realise that despite
being remastered, some of
these games first came out
a long time ago. So they’re
not quite as polished as
Kingdom Hearts III and
have old-school gameplay
(especially in the combat).
However, if you’re a fan of
RPGs, it’s still incredible
value.
