The first time I played
Psycho Raiders
, it blew my mind. By
that I mean it left me disturbed and full of awe. This little indie
magazine game from studio Emperors of Eternal Evil is jam-
packed with brutal atmosphere. It’s no surprise that Nicholas
Cage’s 2018 horror flick
Mandy cuts into the same cranial
lobes and fills the empty space with dread and wonder.
To top off this road trip of violence you will want to serve a
nice juicy steak, as rare as you can stomach. Accompanying the
carved meat and completely on the nose is a tall Bloody Mary.
Wash down a night of terror and blood with, well, more blood.
This concoction of all-encompassing gore is certainly over
the top and a bit facetious, but that’s part of the charm. If you’re
going to play a game and watch a film premised on spectacle,
then you best make a night of it.

Surge
Plaid Hat’s late 2018 release
Neon Gods
is a frenzied retro-
future take on fighting for turf. It near perfectly mimics the
attitude and philosophy at the heart of the ‘79 Walter Hill film
The Warriors
. Both are all-out brawls where ruffians speak with
their fists and unique sense of style. They both highlight a future
of emptiness where politics and discourse have been gutted, the
void filled with vibrant anarchy.
What better accompaniment than a trashy meal of high-
octane Surge and fast food from your preferred eatery? The
caffeine and carbs will keep your veins juiced on glimmer as
hollow as those calories. If the game or movie doesn’t work
out, at least you can scream at each other until that pounding
headache resolves itself. “Can you dig it?”
