Interview
I always start by crocheting the head
fi rst. I then move onto the eyes, face and
make-up, fi nishing the head with hair.
After that, I start crocheting shoes and
legs, and work my way up to meet the
head. It usually takes me two or three
weeks to create a doll, sometimes even
longer depending on the complexity of
the details.
Do you use any other
techniques, besides crochet,
to complete a doll?
Yes, I always use painting to complete
and enhance crocheted details. I often
sew some of the clothes for the dolls, but
sewing is not easy for me and I keep it to
the simplest elements. Of course, in the
future I want to learn how to sew more
skilfully, I believe it will be great for my
dolls. Sometimes small parts or
accessories can be moulded
from clay, like glasses.
Unlike sewing, I am good
at moulding and I really
like to introducing that
into my projects!
What
details are
the most
important to you when
working on your projects?
The most important thing is detail. There
are such specifi c details in dolls that defi ne
the whole point of it. It can be different for
each doll. This can be the colour of eyes,
shoelaces of trainers, glasses, a skirt of a
certain style and shape or a pair of buttons.
Any little thing can make a difference to the
whole character. Without these defi ning
details, my dolls wouldn’t be what they are,
and they wouldn’t be as expressive and
‘lively’. I love working on the little details.
What else do you like
to crochet?
I haven’t crocheted anything else for a long
time, and if I’m honest, I don’t want to now.
I’m doll creator fi rst of all, and crocheting is
just a way to do it. When my daughter was
a toddler, I crocheted many funny and cute
little hats for her. As she got older (and her
head is bigger!) I would
need to remake all those hats, and I just
fi nd them a little bit boring to make now
after all these detailed projects I’ve made.
Crocheting dolls is the more interesting
for me.
Where can our readers follow
you online?
I have an Instagram account mint.bunny
and this is the main place for me and my
dolls. I like to post photos of fi nished dolls,
and even some photos of the work in
progress. I’ll be happy to say hello to new
followers! People often say that I went
beyond their usual notion of
crochet, and I really enjoy
inspiring and surprising
people with my
work. There will
be many more
interesting
things ahead,
and I will try to
give you a lot of
inspiration and
good emotions.
