Who’s going up and
who’s going down in the
world of aviation

QATAR AIRWAYS will boost
frequency on several UK and Ireland
routes this summer. Cardiff will move
to daily, Gatwick and Manchester to

flights a week, and Dublin to 11.
EASYJET has added Cathay
Pacific to the list of partners in its
connections service Worldwide,
which includes Virgin Atlantic,
Singapore Airlines and Emirates.

FLYBMI has ceased all operations,
grounding 17 aircraft that had been
flying to 25 European cities. It
blamed Brexit uncertainty and rises
in fuel costs for the collapse.
NORWEGIAN continued to face
financial headwinds as IAG said it
would sell its share in the airline,
ending talk of a takeover. The carrier
announced it lost £131 million in 2018.
RYANAIR posted its first quarterly
loss since 2014. The carrier’s Q
results showed revenue up 9 per
cent to €1.53 billion but a net loss
of €20 million, excluding its recent
acquisition of Laudamotion. Over
the same period last year it made a
€106 million profit after tax.
KEEPING FIT ON THE ROAD
Always travel with your
running shoes. They’re
light to pack. It’s a great way
to explore a new city
because you cover much
more ground than walking.
And I find it a great cure
for jet lag.
Ask your hotel concierge
for a map of local
running routes. If the
concierge isn’t sure where to
suggest, just head for the
local parks.
UseappssuchasStrava,
MapMyRun, Pacer, Couch
to 5K, or Human to find
running routes in the cities
you visit. Strava recommends
running routes of various
distances in more than
80 cities worldwide.
To find running partners,
hook up with running clubs
in your destination city. The
explore tab on Strava will
connect you with clubs in
your area. You can also tell
your followers if you’re
visiting a certain city, and
ask if anyone has running
contacts there. You’ll be
amazed at how helpful the
local running community is.
If you’re meeting with
clients, ask them if they
want to run with you after
work. I find one of the best
ways to do business is to go
for a run with somebody.
Strava has 36 million
