GLOWING BLACK
AND WHITE
After converting to
mono using the Channel
Mixer, duplicate the
Background layer
then go to Window >
Channels; highlight
Green. Use Filter > Blur
> Gaussian Blur to blur it
by about 5px. Go to Edit
> Fade Gaussian Blur,
set it to 15 and make the
Blending Mode Screen.

ADD A GRAIN
LAYER
Add two separate
‘neutral gray’ layers: one
to dodge and burn, the
other to add grain. Water
and skies normally come
out quite dark on infrared
film; target the first grey
layer and paint with black
over the water. On the
other gray layer, add
grain with Filter > Noise

Add Noise.

LIFT THE TREES
Choose the Adobe
Landscape Profile in
Camera Raw, then tweak
the white balance and lift
Shadows and Saturation.
To mimic the infrared
effect of glowing foliage,
right-click over the image
and choose Luminance
from the resulting menu,
then drag upwards over
the trees to lighten the
greens and yellows.
