SHOW THE RADIUS
Go to the options on
the right and check Show
Edge at the top. Gradually
drag the Radius slider
upwards and you’ll see the
edge begin to appear. This
is the area of refinement
in which the tool will
attempt to improve the
edge. Make the Radius
setting wide enough to
cover the edges of the
parrot’s feathers.
05
PAINT THE EDGE
Grab the Refine
Radius Brush from the
toolbar on the left, and
paint to widen the radius
further along any parts of
the edge where it doesn’t
engulf the edges of the
feathers (or the gaps in
between them). Once
done, uncheck Show Edge.
If you’re happy with the
result, set Output: Layer
Mask and click OK.

FINE-TUNE
THE MASK
Go to the Layers Panel
and highlight the mask
thumbnail on the top
layer. Zoom in close to
the edge, then grab the
Brush Tool and use it to
manually paint over any
parts of the cutout that
need tweaking. Paint
with white to reveal
parts of the layer, and
with black to hide them.
